Then comes the multi stage machine polish, which is where most of the work goes. Once the paint is corrected, a 7-year ceramic coating goes on to lock the finish in. People often ask what the difference is between our £595 package and the £795 Tucked Detail. It comes down to how many polishing stages the paint gets. A single stage polish, the one in the £595 Protection Package, makes one pass to lift light swirls and bring the gloss back up. It is a proper step up from tired paint, and it is the right call when the finish is only lightly marked.

A multi stage correction works through more than one pass. There are cutting stages that go after the heavier defects, then finishing stages that refine the paint afterwards. That is what reaches deeper swirls, holograms and oxidation a single pass will not touch. It takes more stages and more time, and it removes more than one pass can.

Paint correction machines the very top of your clear coat to take out the marks sitting in it. The usual culprit is swirl marks, the fine circular scratches you catch in low sun. They come from years of automatic car washes and dirty sponges dragging grit over the paint. Correction also deals with buffer holograms, the hazy trails left behind by careless machine work, and dull, oxidised paint that has gone flat and lost its depth.

Where we are straight with you is the limit. A deep scratch that has gone through the clear coat and into the colour underneath is not something polishing can fix, because there is no clear coat left to level out. A rough guide: if your nail catches in a scratch, it is usually too deep to polish all the way out. We will tell you what we can and cannot lift before we start, so there are no surprises on the day.

There is a reason we correct and then coat in the same visit. Once the paint is corrected it looks as good as that paintwork is going to look, and a ceramic coating seals that finish in so it stays that way. Leave it bare and the corrected paint is straight back to picking up swirls the next time it is washed. Coat it, and the 7-year ceramic coating gives a slick, hard surface that repels water and grime and holds the gloss for years. Correcting first and coating second is the order that makes the work last.
